Volgograd

City and Population

Formerly known as Stalingrad, Volgograd extends alongside the Volga River and has 1 million residents. Modern Volgograd is an important manufacturing centre, with industries that include shipbuilding, oil refining and steel and aluminium production. The city is also a transportation hub with a major railway junction and rail links to Moscow and several other regions. Volgograd International Airport provides air links to major Russian cities and several destinations worldwide.

Sights

One of the city's most famous museums is the Stalingrad Museum that bears witness to the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II.

Football

While FC Rotor represents the city in the First Division, there are more than 400 amateur clubs competing in different championships and around 35,000 people regularly playing football, 27,000 of which are children.

Stadium

The new FIFA World Cup™ Stadium Volgograd will be located in a park on the beautiful Volga River bank on a site of 32 hectares. The stadium is part of an urban landscape park stretching out along the Volga and the next to the Mamayev Mound memorial complex, which commemorates the battle of Stalingrad from World War II.

FAN FEST

The Fan Fest in Volgograd is located on the Volga riverbank on the Central Staircase Embankment, offering unique and spectacular scenery with perfect views to the river. As a popular leisure area for residents, it will become a gathering place for all fans. The site is very centrally located, offering a capacity of more than 36,000 fans, within walking distance of the city centre.
